Rogers caps on August 4, 2026: how much does your card really lose?

On August 4, 2026, Rogers caps the accelerated cash back on three of its four cards, and keeps a $495 escape hatch in plain view. Before you panic or pay, this page calculates your real loss in dollars. For most people it is smaller than the headlines suggest.

Verdict

On August 4, 2026 the Rogers Red (capped at $16,000), Red World ($26,000) and Red World Elite ($61,000) lose their accelerated rate beyond those thresholds; the base rate applies past them. For the vast majority of cardholders the annual loss runs from zero to a few tens of dollars, and switching to the $495 Legend, the only exempt card, costs more than the cap itself. Keep your free card.

What changes on August 4, 2026?

Until now, Rogers cards paid their accelerated 2% rate (with a Rogers, Fido, Shaw or Comwave postpaid service) on unlimited volume. From August 4, 2026 that rate only applies to an annual slice of spending: $16,000 on the Red, $26,000 on the Red World, $61,000 on the Red World Elite. Beyond it, the card falls back to its base rate: 1% for the Red and Red World, 1.5% for the Elite. Everyone's counter resets to zero on August 4.

Two things do not change: the 1.5x redemption bonus when you credit cash back against a Rogers bill, and the fact that the $495 Red World Legend remains the only card without a cap. One thing changes quietly: the purchase interest rate rises from 20.99 to 21.99% on every card.

Pick your card, enter your spend, and the loss appears. If it reads $0, August 4 does not concern you, whatever the headlines say.

Your cash back, dollars per year

  2. After August 4, 2026, capped

The cap costs you $80 a year. But the $495 Legend is a worse fix: switching would leave you $415 further behind. Keep the free card.

What the math counts
  • Beyond the cap, cash back drops to the card’s base rate: 1 percent on the Red and Red World, 1.5 percent on the Red World Elite. The counter resets for everyone on August 4, 2026.
  • The 1.5x Rogers-bill redemption bonus is unchanged by these rules and is applied to all cash back when you select it.
  • The purchase interest rate also rises from 20.99 to 21.99 percent on all Rogers cards; the calculator assumes you pay your balance in full.
  • The Legend comparison counts its $495 fee and its uncapped earning, nothing else. Its lounge passes and entertainment credit are extras the cap math should not hide behind.

Should you switch to the $495 Legend?

That is the reflex the change encourages: your card got capped, the Legend did not, so trade up. The math almost always says no. On a Red World Elite with cash back credited to a Rogers bill, the cap only costs 0.75 of a point on the slice above $61,000; you need roughly $127,000 of annual spend before that shortfall reaches the Legend's $495 fee.

If you hold a Red or a Red World and your volume clears their cap, the better answer is not the Legend either: it is the Red World Elite, also free, whose $61,000 cap is more than twice as high and whose base rate is better, subject to its eligibility requirements. Climb the free ladder before paying for the $495 rung.

How this math is done

The caps, rates and dates come from the official Rogers Bank notice and its specialist coverage, verified July 10, 2026. The calculator compares your cash back under the old rules and the new ones, applying the Rogers-bill bonus when you select it, and assumes you pay your balance in full each month. This is not financial advice; check the Rogers Bank notice before changing anything.
